In 2014, I was laid off from my Human Resources Manager position. A few months later I had 1/2 my thyroid removed in error. That sent me on a long process to healing. It is an ongoing process that required I change my mindset and let go of who I used to be. In the books below I join some amazing people to share my healing journey. In the BLU talks book I connect this healing with what I know about leadership.
I have been blessed to share in these books with some amazing authors and storytellers. I luckily got to read the stories in advance and promise they will inspire you.
In my chapter, I share what I learned going through exhaustion that didn’t have a medical problem behind it. Even in our worst days there is something to learn. I join with some amazing people to share my story to inspire you to walk through and share yours. There are some amazing stories in this book. I read each one and have had the honour of meeting the co-authors. Each has shared their personal healing journey and I learned so much from reading the chapters.
HER GLOBAL VOICE
There has never been a more powerful time in our history for women to come forward and share their voice than now. HER Global Voice shares the voices of up and coming feminine empowerment leaders who have decided to share MORE of their voice, their stories, their pain, and the wisdom they have gained from finally speaking their truth unapologetically. Each coauthor will inspire and empower you to say YES to your own story while giving you all the permission you need to yell your story from the rooftop. Share your global voice sister…we want to hear you.
I met Lisa through The Leadership Training Network, a social enterprise of the Cochrane District Social Planning Council that offers affordable leadership training opportunities for not-for-profit organizations throughout Northeastern Ontario. She came and spoke to us on several topics including, “Difficult Conversations” and “Myths of Management”. Both topics were very well received by the groups who attended the events. Lisa uses a practical approach to speaking, with a mix of teaching and storytelling, to help solidify the learning. She also keeps it light with anecdotes from her own life and experience. I learned so much from each session and would gladly have her back to speak anytime.
Would it surprise you to know that “Managing, Supervising, and Leading” are skills that have nothing to do with your age? Stepping into a Supervisor/Manager/Leader role is not always easy. You go from doing the work, to motivating and inspiring others to do the work.
When I first started public speaking, I spoke quickly, quietly and got off that stage as soon as possible. Enter toastmasters, Now I can stand on a stage, drop my script and speak for 20 minutes off the cuff.
Having a coach is having someone in our corner that you can discuss anything with. A coach is held to the same level of confidentiality you are. You have everything that you need, a coach just helps you to find your wisdom and remind you of the skills you already possess.
